PROPOSED USES

The larger grilles would be suitable for installation in and around
residences and other buildings, privately owned or otherwise.
See illustration to the right for an example of a large grille
installed in the wall of a patio.

It would be an all-metal artwork, enameled for protection.
The enamel could be black and opaque, to be
evocative of wrought iron gate work.
Or it could be white and shiny, for a
more light and airy appearance.
Ideally, it would be installed facing East or West,
to actually function as a sunshade,
during parts of the day, to certain extents,
besides just ‘being there’ as a work of art.

When so installed, there are other benefits:
the grille will present a pleasant spectacle of broken sunlight,
and a pleasing shadow painting will be displayed on the ground.

In the case of a large grille such as shown in the illustration,
the constituent elements would be quiet large, measuring
around 1/2″ (or 1-1/4 cm) across flats or larger.
The constituent elements can then be hollow, to save weight.

When they are hollow, there will be another benefit:
when the wind blows around and through the artwork
a pleasing acoustic cloud of murmurings and whisperings will be created.
